A Spring Cleaning Green Smoothie Cleanser

Happy Thursday, friends! Spring is in the air which means that naturally, I will have to share with you the perfect recipe for spring cleaning…your body of course! I'm all about cleansing after winter with foods that have naturally detoxifying properties, which leads me to this smoothie I made today! Boy is this one a keeper. It is SO incredibly refreshing and tasted like a Hawaiian beach party in my mouth!


This is a great way to start the day as spring fever approaches!  It sets your body up to feel energized for the rest of the morning and makes it easier to make healthier choices throughout the day! One healthy habit leads to another and each day it gets easier to fight off sugar cravings and unhealthy habits. 

What's great about this smoothie?

One word: ALKALIZING! What the heck does this mean? Our bodies are in perfect health when we have a balance of acidic and alkaline foods. Most people's diets are highly acidic, eating foods like meat, cheese, white bread, sugar, processed foods, ect. In order to get our body into balance we need to eat more foods high in alkalinity! This smoothie has lemon, spinach, cucumber, parsley…all highly alkaline! 


  • Cucumbers are extremely hydrating, detoxifying, anti inflammatory, have cancer fighting properties, and are full of silica which is essential for healthy skin, hair and nails!
  • Pineapple is high in minerals as well as vitamins, cleanses the intestines and kidneys, helps with digestion, and is a rich source of fiber.
  • Parsley is full of B vitamins, supports kidney functions, flushes out excess liquid in the body, anti inflammatory, heals the nervous system, and can help control blood pressure.
  • Ginger has cancer fighting properties, aids in digestion, & relives nausea. 
  • Lemons are known for their digestive and liver cleansing properties.


I also topped the smoothie off with a new ingredient I bought- bee pollen! Sounds weird but its the new rave these days!  It's a great source of protein, energizer, immune booster, digestive enhancer and crushes cravings!

And without further adieu, the recipe!


Ingredients


1/2 cup of filtered water
1/3 cup pineapple (or add more to sweeten)
Juice from 1 fresh whole lemon
big handful of spinach
1 cup cucumber
few leaves of parsley
2 tbsp of ginger

Directions

Add everything to your high powered blender and blend away!
Option to top with super foods (I used bee pollen today!)
